SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY
How to help
The Caledon Pit 5K Run/Walk is an annual event that is hosted and co-funded by Lafarge and Aecon. The run/walk aims to educate the community on the topic of sand and gravel pit rehabilitation and allows them to experience being in an active pit. All sponsorship dollars and registration fees are funnelled back to the selected local charity.
The Caledon Pit was awarded the Ontario Sand, Stone and Gravel's "Award of Excellence" in 2004: an award that recognized the pit's many years of cumulative effort, hard work and dedication to safety, environmental stewardship, property enhancement, progressive rehabilitation and community relations.
Lafarge-Aecon also hosts a Food Drive; a Kid's Fun Activity Corral with activities such as a Gold Nugget Hunt and Face Painting; a Sponsor Expo; a Silent Auction; a Heavy Equipment display; and a Rock Truck Tour of their nearby rehabilitated pits.
Our 2018 event was a huge success; attracting over 100 runners, 250 visitors and raising $27,000 for the Caledon Parent-Child Centre in Bolton.
For 2019, 100% of the registration fees for the Kids Obstacle Course will also be added to the 5k fees and sponsorship dollars raised for this year's charity: Town of Caledon Fire & Emergency Services (CFES) in building a Multi-Disciplined Fire Training Facility.
Our goal this year is to attract at least 300 particiapants to the event, and to raise $25,000.
Friends, neighbours, employees and anyone from the public interested in the event are welcome to join.
CALEDON FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICES
This year's event to be held on July 6, will support the Town of Caledon Fire & Emergency Services (CFES) building of a Multi-Disciplined Fire Training Facility on the outskirts of Caledon Village. This locally accessible facility will be utilized to conduct specialties such as recruit training for the volunteer firefighters and live fire exercises. In addition, will meet the needs of the Training Division to develop, deliver, maintain and advance fire and rescue skill sets to both Volunteer and Full-Time firefighters in our community.
The training facility will be comprised of a main fire training structure and a series of specialized props including agricultural/
commercial silos, hoppers and confined spaces. Training props to support these skill sets would be integrated with a standalone structure that will provide for high angle rope rescue, electrical emergencies, confined spaces, grain and silo engulfment and vehicle entrapment as well as breathing apparatus confidence in confined spaces.
Due to Covid-19,
we have cancelled the run for 2020.
